UHF RFID readers in India at a glance

A UHF RFID reader identifies passive tags in the 865 to 867 MHz band used in India. Fixed at a gate, it reads the tag on an approaching vehicle and passes the ID to an access controller, which opens the barrier for approved vehicles only. TimeWatch offers five UHF readers from 5 m to 30 m, led by the TW-UR710 which reads approx 950 tags per second.

How a UHF RFID gate works

  1. A passive UHF tag (windscreen sticker or hard tag) is fixed to each approved vehicle.
  2. The reader at the gate sends a UHF signal across its read zone.
  3. As the vehicle approaches, the tag returns its unique ID to the reader.
  4. The reader passes the ID to the access controller or software over Wiegand, RS232, RS485 or TCP/IP.
  5. Approved IDs open the boom barrier automatically, and every read is stored with date and time.

Where UHF RFID is used

Corporate and IT parks

Tagged employee cars enter basements and multi level parking without stopping; visitors go to a separate lane.

Residential societies and townships

Residents drive in hands free while guards handle only visitors and deliveries.

Factories and industrial plants

Staff buses, supplier trucks and contractor vehicles are logged automatically at every gate.

Warehousing and logistics yards

Truck arrival and exit are recorded for dock planning and detention tracking.

Ports, CFS and container yards

Long range readers capture trailers at speed and feed gate events to yard software.

Tolling and highway parking

The TW-UR710 reads at up to 30 m for overhead gantry and multi lane setups.

Hospitals and campuses

Doctors and staff use tagged lanes so emergency access stays clear.

Refineries and chemical plants

Only registered tankers reach loading areas, with a complete audit log.

How to choose a UHF RFID reader

Gate width and lanes

Up to 5 m: TW-UR6 or TW-UR6000. Up to 12 m: TW-UR12. Up to 16 m or two lanes: TW-UR8000. Gantries, ports and multi lane yards: TW-UR710.

Traffic volume

For high volume entries where many tags pass together, choose a reader with fast inventory. The TW-UR710 captures approx 950 tags per second.

Tag type

Windscreen stickers suit cars. Hard tags or anti metal tags suit trucks, tankers and containers.

Integration

Use Wiegand for standard access controllers, and RS485 or TCP/IP when the reader must report directly to parking, yard or ERP software.

UHF RFID reader in India: frequently asked questions

What is a UHF RFID reader?

A UHF RFID reader reads passive Ultra High Frequency tags from several metres away. For vehicle access, the tag is fixed to the windscreen and the reader at the gate opens the barrier for approved vehicles without the driver stopping.

What is the maximum read range of a TimeWatch UHF reader?

The TW-UR710 reads up to 30 metres. Other models cover up to 5 m (TW-UR6, TW-UR6000), 12 m (TW-UR12) and 16 m (TW-UR8000). Actual range depends on the tag, mounting and environment.

Which frequency is used for UHF RFID in India?

UHF RFID in India uses 865 to 867 MHz. TimeWatch readers support this band and EPC Class 1 Gen 2 (ISO 18000-6C) tags. Some models also support 902 to 928 MHz for export.

Can a UHF reader read FASTag style windscreen tags?

TimeWatch readers read standard EPC Gen 2 UHF tags. For private gates we supply our own windscreen and hard tags so you control which vehicles are approved. Talk to our team if you want to read existing tags on vehicles.

Is TimeWatch a UHF RFID reader manufacturer in India?

TimeWatch Infocom Pvt. Ltd. is a New Delhi based company that designs, supplies and supports UHF RFID readers, tags, boom barriers and access software for sites across India.

How do UHF readers connect to my system?

Depending on the model, readers output tag IDs over Wiegand, RS232, RS485 or TCP/IP, so they connect to access controllers, boom barrier controllers and parking, yard or ERP software.

What is the difference between UHF RFID and ANPR?

UHF RFID reads a tag fixed to the vehicle and works in rain, dust and low light. ANPR reads the number plate with a camera and needs no tag. Many sites use both together for dual verification.

Which cities does TimeWatch cover for UHF RFID?

TimeWatch supplies UHF RFID systems across India, with dedicated pages for 20 industrial cities including Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Ahmedabad.
